🏊‍♂️ JOIN THE RACE-READY FRIDAY SQUAD

Open Water Swim Prep – Pacing Control Race Prep & Technique at Guildford Lido

Speedy Swimming Squad sessions, held at Guildford Lido 50m pool focusing on T100, Olympic distance triathlon and 70.3 Triathlon race prep including open water skills, speed and power, race take out sets, and pacing control and awareness

If you can swim 6 x 100m front crawl at a pace of 1:30 - 2:15 consistently per 100 metres on 30 seconds rest, or a 400m time trial in 6-9 minutes pace per 100 metres, then this swim group is perfect for you!

Guildford Lido | Starting May 1st 9am

Turn your pool swim into race-day performance. Are you preparing for an Olympic distance, T100, or 70.3 triathlon? Fitness is only half the battle. To excel in open water, you need the technical efficiency to move through the water and the tactical skills to handle the pack.

Starting May 1st, our Friday sessions at Guildford Lido focus on bridging that gap. We combine high-end aerobic conditioning with specific open-water simulations in a supportive, performance-driven environment.

Technical Mastery | Tactical Drafting | Race-Pace Conditioning

Unlock your fastest swim yet. Starting May 1st, we are launching a specialised Friday session at Guildford Lido designed for Olympic, 70.3, and T100 triathletes. This isn't just another swim set—it’s a performance-focused clinic designed to bridge the gap between pool fitness and open-water success.

🚀 THE PERFORMANCE PILLARS

We focus on the three things that actually move the needle on race day:

1. THE "POSITIVE PALM PITCH" (TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY)

Most swimmers lose speed by "slipping" the water. We focus on the underwater catch mechanics seen in the pros:

  • Palm Orientation: Ensuring your hand points backward to create maximum surface area.

  • Leverage: Using your forearm as a paddle to move your body past your hand.

  • Grip: Learning how to "hold" the water even when fatigue sets in.

2. RACE SKILLS & TACTICAL DRAFTING

Open water is a dynamic environment. We teach you how to handle the "pack" with confidence:

  • Drafting Mastery: Practice riding the feet and hips of fellow swimmers to save up to 30% energy.

  • Mass Start Confidence: Drill the "Race-Pace Take-out"—learning how to start fast and settle into your rhythm without red-lining.

  • Sighting & Turns: Integrated drills to help you navigate without breaking your stroke.

3. AEROBIC CONDITIONING (VO2 & THRESHOLD)

Our Friday sets are structured to build the specific engine required for endurance racing. Expect a mix of VO2 max intervals and Threshold pacing designed to improve your CSS (Critical Swim Speed).
