entire seasonal progression into four high-focus, 30-minute blocks.

By splitting each block into a sharp, land-based tactical briefing followed immediately by intensive water execution, you get elite technical adjustments while staying warm, sharp, and focused.

Bonus: We wrap up at 10:00 AM. You beat the heavy summer beach crowds, secure easy parking, and get home in time for the weekend.

"Why am I fast in the pool, but struggling in the sea?"

Every summer, hundreds of triathletes and open water swimmers lose valuable minutes—and massive amounts of energy—fighting the coastal elements. We see triathletes adding between 10-20% extra distance on their race swims.

Some of the reasons for this are:

  • Blinded by the low morning sun.

  • Swept off course by the longshore drift around the pier.

  • Exhausted by the chaotic "washing machine" contact of a beach start.

  • Not sighting regularly enough

  • Navigation and positioning off

Fitness alone won't solve this. Technique and sea-tactics will. This intensive, 1-day clinic bridge the gap between pool fitness and open-water dominance.

4 Blocks. 30 Minutes Each. Continuous Progression.

08:00 – 08:30 | BLOCK 1: Beach Mechanics & Acclimatization

  • On the Sand: Read the rip currents, check the sandbanks, and analyse the day's longshore drift. Understand tides, drifting, using the sea to your advantage.

  • Run a group check of wetsuit fit to eliminate salt-water chafing.

  • In the Water: Master efficient wading, high-knees execution, and dolphin diving over the shore break. Use our specific breathing protocol to instantly clear the cold-water gasp reflex.

08:30 – 09:00 | BLOCK 2: Navigation & Sighting

  • On the Sand: Align with fixed macro-targets (Boscombe Pier and clifftop landmarks) to map out sighting angles into the low morning sun.

  • In the Water: Practice "Crocodile Eyes" sighting—lifting only your goggles to sight while keeping your body perfectly horizontal so your legs don't sink. Swim parallel to the beach to feel and counteract the cross-current.

  • Sea swim techniques for sighting and navigation when its choppy or there is some swell

09:00 – 09:30 | BLOCK 3: Pack Dynamics & Buoy Tactics

  • On the Sand: Quick regroup and a warm sip of water. Break down the mechanics of the tight pivot turn and hip/bow-wave drafting positions.

  • In the Water: High-focus inline and paddle drafting drills. Execute controlled "washing machine" pack loops to get desensitised to race-day contact, finishing with tight, aggressive buoy turns.

09:30 – 10:00 | BLOCK 4: The Race Simulation & Exit Strategy

  • On the Sand: Final tactical brief for the mock race course.

  • In the Water & Sand: A beach-start, multi-lap race simulation (approx. 400m–500m loop). Put everything under pressure: the sprint start, settling into rhythm, body surfing back to shore, and the "Stand-Up Cue" into a vertical transition sprint without a blood pressure drop.

  • Hot Flask Debrief: Individual stroke analysis feedback on the sand (or at a nearby café) and race strategy mapping for Weymouth, Portland, and Eastbourne.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if the weather is terrible? If conditions are deemed genuinely unsafe by the coaching team, we have a backup weather date or the option for a full voucher transfer.

  • Is my swimming level right for this? If you can swim 1,000m without stopping in a pool, in under 24 mins, then you have the fitness. We will give you the open-water skills.

  • Where do we meet? We meet on the sand near Boscombe Pier at 7:45 AM to ensure we are zipped up and ready to start exactly at 8:00 AM.

  • What happens after 10:00 AM? We head straight to a nearby café (like The Urban Reef) for a warm drink, casual Q&A, and to map out your specific strategies for upcoming races like Weymouth or Eastbourne.
