Lets all help inspire one another and keep each other motivated. I'm looking forward to hearing your story!

Mine was watching the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on World Sports Special on ITV on a Saturday afternoon! I thought it was an epic adventure and event, it looked incredible and I loved the idea of the sport of triathlon combining 3 events one after another. It's a 1.5 mile sea swim in currents that can go up to 5 knots, with the start jumping off a ferry into 15 degree waters, followed by a long run to transition, and 18 mile hilly bike, and an 8 mile run, at about halfway you run up 400 sand steps! It's epic!

I searched out anything I could find, which if you remember World Sports Special was quite a while ago, i.e. no internet, we barely had computers slower than a snail going backwards on a slipperly slope uphill!

Anyway, so I found Triathlete magazine from the USA in WHSmiths once a month which was my go to resource for triathlon. Then a friend said come along to the local triathlon club! That sparked a whole lifelong journey and career. What was your defining sporting moment that got you going?

Remember your why and how you started, and what intially sparked or piqued your interest. What was it, how did it make you feel?

Training Tips and managing your Immune system during Coronavirus

We've all seen and are feeling a shift in where our training is at the moment, from not swimming to missing the gym, but fear not there are still lots of ways we can all stay fit and healthy. Our training recommendations from reading and researching a number of sources are:

  1. Train aerobically, cycling or running, keeping your max heart rate below 80% of max

  2. This isn't a time for record setting or achieving your personal bests

  3. Base training and improving your aerobic fitness and fat burning efficiency is the order of the day

  4. Focus on functional training

  5. No anaerobic intervals

  6. Swim bands are a great way for maintaining your swim fitness.

How does exercise affect your immune system, how much is too much?

"Exercise and Your ImmunityResearch is showing that more than 90 minutes of high-intensity endurance exercise can make athletes susceptible to illness for up to 72 hours after the exercise session. ... Your immune system is already taxed by fighting your infection, and additional stress could undermine your recovery."

Does your immune system weakened after exercise?

After exercise, some cells in the bloodstream decrease substantially -- sometimes falling to levels lower than before exercise started, and this can last for several hours. Many scientists previously interpreted this fall in immune cells after exercise to be immune-suppression.20 Apr 2018
