Here you can see the excellent technique of Haydn Woolley. If we analyse his stroke you can see the following TOP 5 SWIM DRILLS and their application:
1. GLIDE AND ROTATE
Once your hand has entered glide reach and stretch for 1 second before starting the stroke. Upon your hand entering the water start the long axis rotation really stretching for the end of the pool so that your hips turn. This sets you up well for long axis rotation and engaging your core better .
2. SWIM OVER A BARREL
Pull yourself over an imaginary barrel pushing it behind you. Keep your elbow high during the pull part of stroke, thereby maintaining an effective catch
3. ¾ CATCH UP
The outstretched hand glides until the other hand enters just past your head, to keep the swim stroke flowing and rhythmical with great timing.
Performing normal front crawl, rotate from the hips to 45 degrees each side. Minimises frontal area resistance, making you more streamlined
5. 1 GOGGLE EYE BREATHING
When breathing keep one goggle eye in the water and your body balanced horizontally. Maintaining a balanced and horizontal body position, stops head lifting too high and legs dropping
Would you benefit from gaining more of an insight into how to do these drills effectively, and how to translate this style of front crawl into your normal swim stroke?
